What is Domestic Abuse?
Domestic Abuse is any incident or pattern of behaviour that is controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour or abuse between anyone aged over 16, who are or have been in an intimate relationship or family member.
Domestic Abuse does not discriminate. It can happen to anyone regardless of age, background, gender, religion, sexuality or ethnicity. It is never your fault.
Every 30 seconds, of every day the Police receive calls relating to Domestic Abuse. Sadly at least 2 people are killed every week as a result.
They are someone’s daughter, mother, son, father, sibling, friend, colleague, passer by or anybody!

How we’ve helped others
Being a guy I didn’t think that there was anyone that would believe me, or anywhere that I could get help.
Then I saw a poster about the New Leaf Drop In. This meant that I could go along, straight from work and that my partner wouldn’t suspect anything.
I was listened to and believed. The advice I was given has given me the strength and confidence to move forward with my life.”
My adult son took over my house and my bank account. After his father died I didn’t have anyone to turn to. I was really scared of him.
I only ever saw him and my Home Help, who came once
a week.
New Leaf worked with other agencies and got me into a temporary, safe property. They supported me and worked with housing and benefits to get me into a permanent place to live. There I was safe, supported and given back some of my independence.”
I knew that I need to get an order to keep me and the kids safe from their dad, but I was scared to do it alone.
New Leaf supported me all the way. Their links with the court meant that they organized it so I did not have to see him in the court room.
They helped with all the paper work and my support worker even took me there and stayed with me.”
